EU Launches New Advisory Body to Foster Consensus in Agri-Food Policy

European Board on Agriculture

The European Commission has introduced the European Board on Agriculture and Food (EBAF), an advisory group designed to encourage dialogue and cooperation across the agri-food sector. This initiative seeks to address the complexities of the food supply chain and support a more sustainable and resilient agricultural system.

Aims to Bridge Gaps and Strengthen Stakeholder Collaboration

EBAF will comprise up to 30 member organizations representing farmers, food industry players, and non-governmental organizations. By launching an open call for applications, the Commission aims to ensure broad participation and inclusion, addressing previous criticisms of exclusive membership. Stakeholders can apply until January 8, 2025.

The board will help shape the forthcoming Vision for Agriculture and Food, a strategic document expected in February 2025. EBAF’s five-year mandate will involve regular meetings, with its first session planned for early 2025 after the final selection of members.
