Trafford Centre leaders have announced plans for Europe’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging park.
The project involves redeveloping a former petrol station near Marks & Spencer at one of the main Trafford Centre entrances. A planning application has been submitted to Trafford Council for approval.
Features of the Proposed Hub
The development will include an ultra-rapid charging hub, a supercharger lounge, a Starbucks Drive-Thru, and a car showroom. It will also feature a digital advertising screen with a vertical “living wall” of plants, promoting sustainability and biodiversity.
Matthew Anderson, development director at Trafford Centre managers Pradera Lateral, revealed that 47 new 250kW ultra-rapid chargers are part of the plan. Combined with existing facilities, the total would reach 65 chargers, potentially making it the largest ultra-rapid charging hub in Europe.
Anderson emphasized that the project integrates seamlessly with the Trafford Centre and its surroundings. He highlighted its forward-thinking design, biodiversity improvements, and support for sustainable travel options.
Construction Timeline
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, if approved, construction could begin as early as 2025.
