Microsoft 365 and Outlook Face Widespread Outage: Thousands Affected Monday Morning

Microsoft 365 outage issue

On Monday morning, Microsoft acknowledged an ongoing issue affecting users’ access to services such as Outlook and Microsoft Teams.

In a post on X, the company explained that the disruption was impacting users trying to access Exchange Online and functionality within the Teams calendar. These services are widely used by businesses for internal communication.

The outage was first reported by DownDetector, a platform that tracks tech service disruptions, at around 8 a.m. ET. By 11 a.m. ET, the site had logged thousands of user reports, with many taking to social media to express their frustration.

One user wrote, “#Microsoft outages are ruining my productive work day. Looks like I might have to rely on phone calls and handwriting to get things done.”

Microsoft responded with an update, stating that a recent change was likely the cause of the problem. The company began reversing the change and confirmed that a fix had been rolled out to “approximately 90% of the affected systems,” with further recovery steps underway.

Past Microsoft 365 Outages

This is not the first Microsoft 365 outage in recent months. On September 12, a similar disruption left many users unable to sign in to their accounts or use other services. The issue was quickly addressed, and Microsoft reported the problem was linked to a change in a “third-party ISP-managed environment.” After the ISP reversed the change, service was restored.

During that disruption, Downdetector tracked over 24,000 affected users, with peak issues around 9 a.m. ET. Microsoft confirmed the issue was resolved shortly after.
