Rescue operations are ongoing after a migrant boat capsized near Crete, 12.5 nautical miles southwest of Gavdos. Coastal and coast guard vessels, along with helicopters from the navy and Air Force, are on the scene.
ERT confirmed one person dead and 39 survivors rescued, who were transported to Paleochora in Kandanos-Selinos municipality. About 80 people were reportedly aboard the wooden dinghy.
Man Airlifted Amid Harsh Weather
A man in critical condition was airlifted to Chania Hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Winds reaching five on the Beaufort scale have made rescue efforts more difficult.
