Lower Oil Tariffs to Prevent Fuel Cost Increases

To avoid a surge in fuel prices, the government set Canadian oil tariffs at 10% instead of 25%. Canada and Mexico remain key oil suppliers, providing one-quarter of the crude oil used in U.S. refineries. In 2022, Canada accounted for 60% of U.S. crude imports, while Mexico supplied 10%, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Crude oil is essential for producing gasoline, diesel, and heating fuel, making its pricing a significant economic concern.
