Sony Showcases Innovative Tech at CES 2025

Sony CES 2025 innovations

During its keynote at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Sony introduced cutting-edge products across mobility, sports, and content creation.

Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture launched in 2022, announced the upcoming market release of its first electric vehicle, the Afeela 1.

Initially revealed two years ago, the Afeela 1 starts at $89,900 (€86,500). It is now available for reservations in California, with deliveries expected by mid-2026.

The vehicle boasts 800 trillion tera operations per second (TOPS) of computing power and 40 driver-assistance sensors to enhance safety and usability.

“Afeela’s AI perception system accurately recognises surroundings, while its AI planner generates optimal driving strategies,” said Yasuhida Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility.

Game-Changing Innovations in Sports and Production

Sony also announced a coach headset developed in partnership with Horizon’s 5G network. Set to debut during the 2025 NFL season, the headset aims to streamline communication and improve team efficiency.

In the realm of content creation, Sony unveiled the PXO AKIRA virtual production system, designed for filming vehicles without on-location shoots.

PXO AKIRA combines robotic camera cranes, motion platforms, and LED displays to simulate dynamic environments, potentially lowering costs and increasing safety.

“This system spins 360 degrees and syncs with virtual environments on LED screens, delivering a realistic filming experience,” said Johnny Slow, CEO of Pixomondo, a Sony subsidiary.

Another highlight was the XYN system, which scans real-world objects and spaces to create 3D digital assets.

“From films to the metaverse, XYN transforms real objects into high-quality 3D assets using mirrorless camera images,” explained Thaisa Yamamura, Sony Electronics’ head of XR Business Development.

Expanding Creative Horizons

Sony stated that the XYN system employs advanced algorithms to streamline generation time while allowing users to add motion data via a companion app.

By integrating tools like PXO AKIRA and XYN, Sony aims to revolutionise content creation, providing new ways to merge real and virtual worlds.

From AI-enhanced vehicles to futuristic production systems, Sony’s innovations demonstrate its commitment to redefining technology and creativity.
