White House Confirms FAA-Approved Drone Activity in New Jersey

FAA authorized drones New Jersey

The White House announced that drones observed over New Jersey last year were authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These drones were used for research and recreational purposes and did not pose any threat to public safety.

Explanation of Drone Sightings

During her first press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified the nature of the drone activity. Many of the drones were flown recreationally by hobbyists, while others were part of FAA-approved research initiatives. Leavitt emphasized, “This was not an enemy threat,” suggesting that heightened public curiosity added to the speculation around the sightings.

Trump’s Concerns Before Taking Office

Before his inauguration, President Donald Trump raised alarm over the unidentified drones, urging citizens to intervene if necessary. He also accused former President Joe Biden of withholding important details about the sightings, though no evidence was provided to support this claim.

Findings from the Biden Administration

In December, the Biden administration shared similar conclusions about the drone activity. Former White House spokesperson John Kirby explained that the reported sightings were a mix of lawful commercial drones, recreational aircraft, and law enforcement operations. Kirby also noted that some reports mistakenly identified stars and manned aircraft as drones. He reassured the public that no unusual activity or security risks had been detected.

Both administrations concluded that the drones over New Jersey were part of routine, authorized operations and posed no danger to the public.
