Authorities Investigating, No Suspects in Custody
An 80-year-old man was shot and killed in a drive-by attack Wednesday morning in Chicago. Police are actively searching for those responsible.
The shooting took place just after 10:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of W. 90th St., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department. The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as James Stroud Sr., was sitting in his parked vehicle when another car approached.
A gunman inside the vehicle fired multiple shots, striking Stroud in the head and back. Emergency responders transported him to Christ Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
As of Thursday morning, police confirmed that no arrests had been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Family Remembers Stroud as a Kind and Hardworking Man
Stroud’s family spoke with WGN-TV and WLS-TV, expressing their shock and heartbreak over his sudden and violent death. His son, James Stroud Jr., described him as a kind-hearted man who had recently retired from truck driving.
“He was a great guy,” Stroud Jr. told WLS-TV. “I never imagined something like this happening to him or anyone else.”
The family remains puzzled about why Stroud was in that area, as he did not live on W. 90th Street. His son told WGN-TV that his father had planned to stop by the bank that morning to withdraw money and pay bills.
“Whoever did this, I just hope they face justice,” Stroud Jr. said. “My dad was a good man. This was a cowardly act, and if anyone knows anything, I hope they speak up and tell the police.”
