Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced her resignation as president of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group. The decision allows her to concentrate on domestic priorities and maintaining Italy’s political stability.
Meloni’s Announcement at Brothers of Italy Festival
Meloni shared the news during the Brothers of Italy party’s annual youth festival in Rome on Sunday. The event, attended by over 300 guests, including opposition leaders and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, celebrated her government’s achievements since taking office two years ago.
In her speech, Meloni emphasized that political stability enhances Italy’s credibility both nationally and internationally. Confident in her administration’s strength, she expressed her belief that the government will serve its full term.
Morawiecki Set to Lead ECR Group
Meloni announced her support for Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland as her successor to lead the ECR group. This endorsement ensures a smooth leadership transition while Meloni shifts her focus to Italian governance.
Lebanon Recognizes Italy’s Role in Peacekeeping
At the event, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati praised Italy’s contributions to the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon. He stressed the importance of Italy’s support in maintaining regional stability and highlighted the need for cooperation in facilitating the return of Syrian refugees.
Meloni’s resignation from the ECR presidency signals her dedication to strengthening Italy’s political stability while continuing to influence European conservative policies.
