$Melania Coin Announcement

Melania Trump launched her cryptocurrency, $Melania, ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration as US president. This follows President-elect Donald Trump’s creation of $Trump, another cryptocurrency. Both digital coins have surged but remain highly volatile.

“The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now,” she shared on the platform X on Sunday. The official website describes $Melania as a crypto asset built and tracked on the Solana blockchain.

Disclaimers on the $Trump and $Melania websites emphasize that these coins are neither investment opportunities nor securities. According to CoinMarketCap, $Trump’s market valuation is around $12 billion, while $Melania’s is approximately $1.7 billion.

Cryptocurrency and Trump’s Influence

Previously, Donald Trump criticized cryptocurrency as a “scam.” However, during the 2024 election campaign, he became the first presidential candidate to accept digital asset donations. He also proposed creating a bitcoin reserve and appointing crypto-friendly financial regulators. These promises raised hopes for reduced regulations in the crypto sector.

After Trump’s victory, bitcoin hit a record high and now trades around $107,000 on Coinbase. David Sacks, the incoming AI and crypto advisor, hosted a “Crypto Ball” in Washington, DC, on Friday. Meanwhile, cryptocurrencies like dogecoin, championed by Elon Musk, have also seen significant gains this year.

Under President Joe Biden, regulators targeted crypto firms over fraud and money laundering concerns, leading to lawsuits against major exchanges.
